A message from our Keynote Speaker Richard Gere

Internationally renowned actor and activist Richard Gere has spent a lifetime working to bring attention and solutions to global humanitarian issues.

Since the early 1980’s, Gere has vigorously advocated for human rights in Tibet and the preservation of Tibetan culture. He has also worked to bring awareness to environmental issues, HIV/AIDS research, and the global refugee crisis.

His sister Susan Gere is a volunteer clinician at De Novo, providing forensic psychological evaluations to asylum seekers.

De Novo’s History: A Timeline

Over five decades ago, Dr. Joseph H. Brenner founded De Novo on the idea that all people deserve access to justice and healing, no matter their economic status. From its inception, De Novo was envisioned as an organization of volunteers, leveraging the donated services of legal and mental health professionals to improve the lives of underserved community members.

50 Years of Stories

Our 50-year history is made up of the thousands of stories of individuals who have left an indelible mark on our community. We invite you—our volunteers, staff members, former clients, partners, board members, and supporters—to join us in the telling of De Novo’s story.

Throughout the year we’ll share selected stories on our website, our social media, and in our print publications.
